Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for Oral Health Professionals

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is an evidence-based practice designed to identify and address problematic drug and alcohol use early, promoting healthier behaviors and reducing risks to overall and oral health. Offered by the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, this online CME course, presented by Jennifer Hettema, Ph.D. of LifeStance Health, equips dental clinicians, such as dentists and hygienists, to screen for substance use, deliver brief interventions using motivational interviewing, and refer patients to treatment.
